3050 Supercapacitor Cell Can and Cover - TOB-3050-Al
Product Overview and Ideal Applications
The TOB-3050-Al is an aluminum cell can for 3050 supercapacitor cells, supplied together with the matching cover that closes the cell. The can is dimensioned with an inner diameter of 28.91 mm, an outer diameter of 29.78 mm, a thickness of 0.49 mm and a height of 53.5 mm.
Because the can and the cover are supplied as one set, the two parts that form the cell housing are ordered, received and counted together instead of being sourced from two separate items.
Ideal for:
- 3050 supercapacitor cell builds
- Assembly lines that want the cell can and its cover arriving as a single matched supply item
- Runs where the can is consumed together with the cover, so both parts must be on the same schedule
- Projects that need the housing dimensions checked against their own cell drawing before the first order
- Not for other formats: this can and cover are made for 3050 supercapacitor cells only. They do not carry over to a different cell format — for those, use the case supplied for that format.
Where the Can and Cover Fit in Supercapacitor Assembly
The can and its cover are consumed at the housing stage of cell assembly, after the electrode and separator have been wound and dried, and before the cell is closed and filled. The sequence below is the typical routing on a cylindrical supercapacitor line — confirm it against your own process before releasing an order.
- Electrode preparation — coating and slitting of the current collector
- Tab making — tabs are punched to shape on the supercapacitor tab punching machine before winding
- Winding the electrode and separator into the jelly roll, then drying
- The can and cover are used here — the wound core is inserted into the 3050 can and the cover is brought into position over it
- Cover assembly — the cover is joined to the terminal on the electric riveting machine for supercapacitor caps
- Closing — the can is grooved and sealed on the aluminum case supercapacitor grooving and sealing machine
- Electrolyte filling, cleaning, aging and testing
Key Engineering Characteristics of TOB-3050-Al
1. Can Dimensions
- Inner diameter 28.91 mm: the bore of the can, and therefore the dimension that has to clear the wound core you intend to insert.
- Outer diameter 29.78 mm: the outside of the can, and therefore the dimension that has to suit your grooving and sealing tooling and any holder on the line.
- Thickness 0.49 mm: the thickness value specified for this can, listed on this page exactly as it is given on the product data.
- Height 53.5 mm: the height of the can, and therefore the headroom available for the core, the cover and the closing allowance.
2. Material
- Aluminum: the can is supplied in aluminum. Confirm the grade your closing and welding operations require before ordering, because the grade is not fixed by the size designation alone.
3. Supplied as a Set
- Can and cover together: the two parts of the cell housing are supplied as one set, so a single order line covers both positions instead of two.
- One format per set: the can and cover are sized for 3050 cells; they are not interchangeable with another format's housing.

Selection Guide: Matching the Case to Your Supercapacitor Cell
A cell housing cannot be adapted from one format to another, so the decision is made by the cell you are building. TOB supplies several supercapacitor case sizes, of which the arrangements below are the usual starting points.
| Decision point | TOB-3050-Al (this product) | 60138 / 60130 / 66130 case | Other 3050-compatible options |
|---|---|---|---|
| Format code | 3050 | 60138 / 60130 / 66130 | 2245, 16265 and other codes |
| What it covers | Aluminum cell can + matching cover | Case and battery casing materials for the 60 mm-class cells | Case material supplied to the size of the cell you build |
| Can dimensions on record | 28.91 mm ID, 29.78 mm OD, 0.49 mm, 53.5 mm H | Listed on the 60138 / 60130 / 66130 case page | Confirmed per enquiry against your cell drawing |
| Choose it when | You are building 3050 supercapacitor cells | You are building the larger 60 mm-class supercapacitor cells | Your cell drawing does not sit on a standard code |
Practical Operating Recommendations
- Check the can against your drawing first: compare the 28.91 mm inner diameter and the 53.5 mm height with the core you intend to insert before the first order, because a can that is close but not equal will not be corrected by adjusting the closing step.
- Order the set, not the parts: the can and cover are made for the same format, so keeping them on one order line avoids a mismatch between a can from one lot and a cover from another.
- Align the cover with your closing operation: confirm that the cover you receive suits the way your line joins it to the terminal and then grooves and seals the can.
- Verify before a full run: take the set through insertion, cover assembly and closing on a small number of cells before committing a full production lot.
Engineering FAQ
Q1: Why are the can and the cover supplied as one set rather than as two separate items?
Because they are the two halves of one housing and are sized against each other. Supplying them together means the closing operation is planned around a pair that belongs to the same format, and there is one supply item to count instead of two.
Q2: How do I confirm that the 3050 can suits the cell I am building?
Compare the four figures on this page with your cell drawing: the inner diameter has to clear the wound core, the outer diameter has to suit your grooving and sealing tooling, and the height has to leave room for the core and the closing allowance. Send us the drawing and we will check it against the can before you order.
Q3: What is not included in the set?
The set covers the cell housing: the can and the cover. The electrode, separator, electrolyte, tabs and any gasket or insulation part are not part of it and are ordered separately.
Q4: How does the 3050 case differ from the larger supercapacitor cases such as the 60138 series?
By cell format, not by quality level. The two families belong to different cell sizes, and a housing made for one format is not adapted to the other. Choose on the cell you are building; the 60138 / 60130 / 66130 case is covered on its own page.
Q5: Which other operations on a supercapacitor line use this part?
The can and cover are handled by the tab punching step that makes the tabs before winding, the riveting step that joins the cover to the terminal, and the grooving and sealing step that closes the can. Those three operations are linked from the process section above so you can check the tooling side by side with the housing.
Q6: Can the can and cover be supplied in a size other than 3050?
TOB supplies supercapacitor cases in several size codes, and housing can be produced to a customer drawing. Send the inner diameter, outer diameter, thickness and height of the can you need, together with the quantity, and the size will be confirmed against what can be produced.
Need the 3050 can and cover in a quantity or configuration that is not standard? Send us your cell drawing and your build volume.

-
Supercapacitor Tab Punching Machine - makes the tabs that go into the cell before winding, so it is the operation immediately upstream of the housing. Relevant when you are setting up the whole sequence rather than buying the can alone.
-
Electric Riveting Machine for Supercapacitor Caps - joins the cover to the terminal. This is the step where the cover you receive from this set is actually used, so check it together with the cover specification.
-
Aluminum Case Supercapacitor Grooving And Sealing Machine - grooves and closes the aluminum can. Because it works on the outside of the can, its tooling has to suit the 29.78 mm outer diameter of this set.
