14500 Cylinder Cell Case Kit - TOB-14500-C-1
Product Overview and Ideal Applications
The TOB-14500-C-1 is a matched hardware kit for building 14500 (14 mm × 50 mm) cylindrical cells. Each set contains one nickel-plated Japanese steel case, one anti-explosive cap, and the upper and lower insulation gaskets that go with them. Kits are supplied 100 sets per bag.
The cap arrives with an aluminium tab already welded in place (7 mm × 3 mm × 0.15 mm), so the step of joining a tab to the cap is removed from your process. The cap is rated at ≤ 0.5 mΩ internal resistance, and its safety valve opens at 3.2 ~ 4.0 MPa.
Ideal for:
- 14500 (14 mm × 50 mm) cylindrical cell builds
- Builds that need case, cap and both insulation gaskets from one matched set
- Assembly routings that want the cap-to-tab joining step removed
- Runs sized in hundreds of cells, matching the 100 sets per bag supply
- Not for other formats: this kit fits 14500 cells only. For 18650, 21700 or 4680, use the case listed for that format.
Where the Case Kit Fits in Cylindrical Cell Assembly
The case kit is consumed at the assembly step, after the electrode stack is wound and before the cell is closed. In a cylindrical cell line it sits at step 3 below:
- Electrode preparation — coating, rolling press and slitting
- Winding the electrode and separator into the jelly roll
- The case kit is used here — insert the jelly roll into the case, place the upper and lower gaskets, and fit the anti-explosive cap
- Cap welding — the pre-welded aluminium tab is what the welding step connects to
- Grooving and electrolyte filling
- Sealing, cleaning and formation / grading
Key Engineering Characteristics of TOB-14500-C-1
1. Case Construction
- Nickel-plated Japanese steel: the case is formed from Japanese steel with a nickel plating, giving a weldable and corrosion-resistant outer surface for cylindrical cell assembly.
- 14500 format: dimensioned for 14500 (14 mm × 50 mm) cells.
2. Cap and Pre-Welded Tab
- Anti-explosive cap: fitted with a safety valve that opens at 3.2 ~ 4.0 MPa to release internal pressure.
- Pre-welded aluminium tab: 7 mm × 3 mm × 0.15 mm, welded to the cap before delivery. This is the main practical difference from buying a bare case and cap separately — the tab-to-cap joining operation does not have to be set up on your line.
- Cap internal resistance: ≤ 0.5 mΩ, so the cap adds a known and small series resistance to the cell.
3. Kit Completeness and Packaging
- Matched consumables: case, cap, upper gasket and lower gasket are supplied together, so one bag covers all four positions.
- Standard packaging: 100 sets per bag.

Selection Guide: Matching the Case to Your Cell Format
The case kit does not scale across formats — the case, cap and gaskets are made for one format only. Use the format that matches the cell you are building:
| Decision point | TOB-14500-C-1 | 18650 cell case | 21700 cell case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cell format | 14500 | 18650 | 21700 |
| Cap | Anti-explosive | Anti-explosive | Anti-explosive |
| Supplied as | Case + cap + upper and lower gaskets | Case + anti-explosive cap + insulation O-ring | Case + anti-explosive cap + insulation O-ring |
| Pre-welded cap tab | Yes — 7 mm × 3 mm × 0.15 mm aluminium | Not offered as standard on the linked case | Not offered as standard on the linked case |
Practical Operating Recommendations
- Count before you start a run: a bag holds 100 sets, and each set must cover four positions. Count the bag against your planned run size before opening, because a missing gasket stops assembly mid-run.
- Confirm the tab before releasing the routing: because the aluminium tab is pre-welded, check that your cap welding step is set up to join to a 7 mm × 3 mm × 0.15 mm aluminium tab rather than to weld a tab onto the cap itself.
- Align the valve range with your test limits: the cap valve opens at 3.2 ~ 4.0 MPa; make sure the pressure limits used in your cell test and acceptance plan are consistent with that range.
- Fit both gaskets: the kit provides an upper and a lower insulation gasket; both positions must be populated, so verify the instruction sheet in your line reflects two gaskets per set.
Engineering FAQ
Q1: Why is the aluminium tab welded to the cap before delivery?
So that the tab-to-cap joining operation does not have to exist on your line. You receive a cap that already carries a 7 mm × 3 mm × 0.15 mm aluminium tab, which leaves only the remaining weld on the cap as your process step.
Q2: How do I choose between this kit and the 18650 or 21700 cases?
By cell format only — the parts are not interchangeable. If your cell is 14500 (14 mm × 50 mm), this kit applies. If it is 18650 or 21700, use the case made for that format. The decision is made by the cell you are building, not by capacity or application.
Q3: What does the 3.2 ~ 4.0 MPa value tell me about the cap?
It is the pressure at which the cap's safety valve opens to release internal pressure. Treat it as the cap's opening threshold when you set pressure limits for your cell testing and acceptance criteria.
Q4: What does ≤ 0.5 mΩ cap internal resistance mean in practice?
It is the resistance contributed by the cap itself. A capped value of ≤ 0.5 mΩ means the cap adds only a small, bounded series resistance to the cell, which matters when you compare internal resistance readings between builds or between cap lots.
Q5: What is not included in the kit?
The kit covers cell hardware only: case, cap, upper gasket and lower gasket. The electrode assembly, separator, electrolyte and any other cell component are not part of it.
